I'm pretty sure I have read this somewhere but I'm just confirming...the rate that PCMSCAN logs data is related to how many PID's your logging, right?

I wish I could have more data points to work with....the LS1 revs so quickly in all gears but 4th-6th that I can't even catch any logs with RPM's higher than 5300...though I shift closer to 6000.  I'm going to try reduce the # of pids logged but besides that I would love to log 8 pids at once and have more data points...

Any hints?

If you are using an ELM-based OBD-II interface, you can go to the preferences (under the File menu) and set the ELM Response Timeout to something lower. But don't set it too low. If you set it too low you'll start dropping data packets.

Thanks for the hint, mine was set to 200 (default?) so we'll see if 100 is tolerable...I think I heard that most people were ok at 100.

Is there a way to know when you're dropping data packets?  Also, what are the max recommended pids for normal logging?  I'd love to grab at least 8 or more but I don't want to sacrifice log quality.

For your LS1, you could probably set it to 75 without it dropping data packets.

The only way you know you're dropping data packets is when the PID's value stops changing. If you're revving the engine and you get two frames with the same RPM then you probably didn't get the second reading so the RPM never changed.

There really is no max PIDs for logging, but the more you add the slower it will go.

FYI, for other people logging LS1's....my 1997 seems to drop a few packets at 75...I'm gonna continue playing with the rate until it's "perfect".

As of now I can log 5 pids and the refresh rate is around 1 second.  I'd like at least 2-5 readings per second if possible...I keep turning off PIDS, hoping that I'll get some better logs!  In any gear below 4th, the car rev's so quickly that I can't get any datapoints!
