Can someone explain to me the difference between Bank 1 and Bank 3 for the Long Fuel Trim.
I have looked into internet but I could not find any explaination. My Jeep is reporting trim on bank 3 but its a L6 engine and I have no idea what bank 3 means.

Does it also report LTFT's for banks 1 & 2?

Brian,

Thanks for your support. Yes it does for Bank 1 but not for Bank 2 and 4.
I include my cfg file and log file. In the cfg file you can see that bank 2 and bank 4 are not supported in the pid list.

Very interesting. I have no idea why those chose to go with bank 3 either. Huh

Brian,

Is my assumption correct that I only should have a reading for Bank1 ? Is Bank 2 e.g only used on a v8 engine where 4 cylinders are Bank1 and the other 4 cylinders are bank 4 (like with the O2 sensors ?)

Yes, that's correct for the V8. However, since yours is a L6, is it possible that part of the cylinders are considered bank 1 and part are considered bank 3? I suspect that is not the case, your vehicle probably just reports bank 3 data, but doesn't actually have a 3rd bank at all. The data seems bogus anyways.

Can you send me a techlog  on level 9 with debug tracing enabled? For the techlog, just data log the relevent LONGFT1 & 3 and SHRTFT1 & 3 and the other O2 pids, but nothing else. I only need a techlog with a couple frames of data in it. I just want to verify that this isn't a bug in PCMSCAN.

It appears that your vehicle's ECU is reporting bank 3 fuel trims even though bank 3 is not supported. Huh

Ok Brian,

Thanks, I have to live with the fact I suspect. Is there a way to look at the trace myself ? I opened it in Notepad but could not make much sense out of that.

No, the techlogs are not in a human readable format. They contain debugging information to help us diagnose problems. I doubt much of the information would be useful to anyone.

-also i'm looking into buying this program but want to view the log file on my computer before then, is this allowable/possible?

I suspect that some vehicles may be calling the post-cat sensors as bank 3. But it seems that there are a few vehicles that have non-existant banks, and I have no idea why or if the information is even useful in any way.

Yes, you can view the log file on your computer. Just download the evaluation version of the software and open the log file.
