So the screen dimming thing is really hard for us to reproduce. But we did see it once out of many tries. And we saw it on an iPhone 4 which is not multi-threaded. However we need to come up with a more reliable test case before we can fix it. Although we do have a couple of ideas which we might try if we cannot fix it definitively.

As far as adding another setting for mirroring or av/out, we are looking into adding it for the next release, but I can't make any promises. There are a few complications as I understand it.

Emilgram, how does straight mirroring work? Does this require a jailbroken app?

Do you mean that the connection to the OBD-II is timing out? This is expected if you switch DashCommand to the background while you use a different app.

It timed out without switching to any other app.  I tried to duplicate the problem yesterday, but it seemed to be working fine.  Disregard my post.

I tried the screen dim with the iPad3, iPhone4, and iPod4.  None of them will timeout.  Can you guys try cycling the power off and rebooting your device and see if that fixes the timeout.  Next step I would suggest is completely remove DashCommand and re install.  You will lose all of your vehicle settings and log files if you delete DashCommand, so be warned.  I am starting to wonder if some files stay cached in the iOS system on an update?

Tried the power cycle as soon as I experienced the issue. Did not fix the issue. For me, I connect my BT1 to the OBDII port and connect to it with my phone and start DashCommand. I always get the dim/lock after this. I kill the task and restart DashCommand from scratch and works 100% stable. If I minimize DashCommand while connected (to check mail or something) and then reopen DashCommand, I am taken directly to the tab I was once monitoring but get the "red" connection. After 30 seconds (per settings), DashCommand re-establishes the link, it turns green and logging starts. I'll get the dim/lock issue 100% of the time doing this.

Not willing to completely delete and re-enter all my data back into DashCommand to help troubleshoot, sorry. Perhaps someone else can try and confirm if this fixes it.

Maybe it is possible that the email app is undoing our screenlock setting. Can you let us know exactly which app you are running after minimizing DashCommand?

We just tried running an email app in the middle of DashCommand but still don't see the problem.

Also what phone and iOS version do you have? Is it jailbroken?

FW 5.1.1, iPhone 4S not jail broken & BT1. I gave a lot more details of my setup and issues in my thread on 3.0.1 issues.

Any application is causing this, taking a phone call, checking maps, calendar, etc.

John@PPE: My iPhone 4S is NOT jailbroken. Mirroring works natively on all iPhone 4S and iPad 2/3 devices. I guess it would also work on earlier devices if these are jailbroken. I was very dissapointed when PPE disabled mirroring for this App. I know it was not intentional but it really decreased the usability of my setup.

I am running iOS 5.1.1. Before Dashcommand v3 I was able to fully mirror my iPhone on my external LCD via HDMI. This was ideal for me as I have a Mazda 3 with a stock stereo and all I did was add a dash-mounted LCD to my car. I understand this is not a typical setup for an external display as many customers would replace their stock radio with an AppRadio or equivalent. However, the advantage of my setup is that I am not limited by Pioneer in what applications I am able to run or not while I am driving my car.

We are able to duplicate the screen dimming when the iPhone is plugged into a car stereo. However the screen never locks. Still I think this is probably the same cause as what is reported.
