hi i need step by step instructions on how to make dash command work with my obd1 ecu in my car.

will this work?

goal:
to have it as a digital gauge to monitor different engine info.

i would also like to be able to add other sensors and have it show on the digital gauges.

what would i need and what needs to be done?

i do know i need a seperate monitor like a lilliput.
i need a computer. but i dont know what extra parts need to be in the computer.
i also know i need something to attach the ecu to the computer so it can read the signals.

other than that, i know nothing else.

OBD-I is not standardized, there is no way DashCommand will work for you.  You would need a product designed around your exact make and model of vehicle with a hardware that is specific to your exact vehicle.

Cody, perhaps you could have worded this a bit differently.  DashCommand works perfectly fine with OBD-I cars as long as you have third party hardware to retrieve the data, ie: Zietronix, PLX and others.  We use DashCommand for our OBD-I track car via the Zietronix ZT-2.  We are more than happy with the results and love DashCommand's abilities to use custom skins.

I did an entire write-up on our setup here: http://4amracing.com/?p=712
