Hey all, I have a question. Just picked up a Kiwi WiFi and Dash Command 3.0.1 for an iPhone 4S running iOS 5. I'm using it to monitor a 2006 BMW 330xi. After creating the car in Vehicle Manager and filling in all the specs I was able to get RPM values and calculated values like Power and Torque. However, other values weren't populating. After doing some reading on the forums, I used the data logging feature to find out what PIDs are available. I tried to select Engine Coolant Temp and Intake Air Temp as they both had the green check next to them. They showed up but both show 'No Data'.
Can someone shed some light on this for me? I understand that not all values are available on the OBDII port, but I assume the supported PIDs should report data. Is this a BMW thing?
Thanks in advance for any help.
~Mark

It should be getting that value, because it is claiming to support it. There is probably an issue between the obdii device and the BMW.
I'd suggest changing the OBD-II Response Timeout in the vehicle manager page. Set it to 1000 and re-validate the PIDs. This will probably slow your performance noticeably, but should be your best bet to get the values.
After validating the PIDs, check the coolant temp value again. If nothing has changed, take the response timeout back to 200.
If 1000 does work, then you might find that a smaller value provides a better balance for performance.

Hi John! Thanks for the fast reply. I tried making the change you suggested, but the data logging page still shows 'No Data'. It's interesting, because I was able to add things like SAE.OBDSUP and get results. (There was another one about an emissions check that worked but I can't find it now.) Any other SAE PID that I try to monitor just shows 'No Data'. I tried to re-validate the PIDs, I tried shutting down the app and restarting it, tried it with engine running and not running, nothing seems to work.
Any other ideas?
Thanks again,
~Mark

Why don't we try getting a techlog and lgf file. Enable debugging and send the techlog as described in the forums.
Then start datalogging. Run it for 30 seconds and send us the resulting data log file.
When you send the email, please mention this forum post so we can match you to it.

Great! Our support team will take a look at those. Give them a day or two. Sometimes these files take a bit of work to figure out.

Okay. I just talked to Cody about this.
Long story short, is that your BMW doesn't support too many PIDs. So in that case we are out of luck.
But, we are considering whether we might be able to get more PIDs, if we make a change to our code. Some of us think it will make a difference, and some of us don't.
I'll try to update you on where we are with this next week. It will take some thinking and experimenting on our part.

Thanks, John. What about the ones that have a green check but report 'No Data'? I understand that the car won't report many PIDs, but I'd like to know why the ones that Dash Command says are available aren't returning any data. If there's anything I can do to help test, please let me know. I think this is too cool not to get working! I see another thread that seems to be a similar issue. (Green check mark for the PID but no data.) Thanks again, I appreciate all you guys are doing. Hopefully this is for the benefit of everyone, not just me. ~Mark

Lets start by trying to set the 'minimum bus idle time' to 200ms. If you pick up data from the ones not showing by setting it to 200ms (the ones that are green but show nothing), you may see it is displaying slower. If it works, keep lowering the bus idle to the lowest number you can get it and keep showing data.
I keep trying to talk John into buying an M3 so we can have a test car BMW

Hey Cody, thanks for all the help! With my settings thusly: ISO/KWP: 2000 ODB-II Response time: 1000 Min Bus Idle Time: 200 I re-validated my PIDS and went to the data logging screen, but still 'No Data'. I can pitch in a few bucks for the M3 if need be. John, you should really get on that. Thanks, ~Mark

Nice. Just a few bucks more and I'll be driving in style. I promised you an update on this. We're still looking into it. I hope to have something more next week.
