I recently bought ScanXL and have it running on an IBM ThinkPad 380Z (W98SE).   The disc just arrived but I am using the demonstration program that I downloaded from this site along with the license key (build 731).

The program seems to work well enough for displaying the PIDs (with the monitor command) and, after running the car and program for a while, I save the log file on my hard drive.  However, I cannot play back the logged data even though opening the log file doesn't give me any errors.

What do I need to do to play back logged data?

You should be able to just open the log file and hit the play button. It should then start playing it back for you. Also, go to the File menu->Preferences and make sure the log file playback speed is set to the middle real-time setting.
